Nii T. Mills

Nii T. Mills, born in 1963 in Jamestown, Ghana, is a Ghanaian artist. He completed his art degree at Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) in Kumasi, Ghana, in 1987. Subsequently, Mills joined KNUST as an assistant lecturer in fine arts and remained until 1989. Since then, he has pursued a full-time career as an artist in Accra.

Mills primarily employs oil on canvas to create his artworks, which often explore anthropological themes, focusing on the evolution of the Accra landscape and its people. His art reflects on how past cultural ideas influence contemporary events. In his works, he aims to present his subjects with a sense of fantasy, adding intrigue while delving into various themes from the present and the past. For example, he examines the transformation of castles around Accra, once places of protection, into cultural relics.

Beyond his artistic pursuits, Mills has collaborated on set design projects with the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation. He remains based in Accra and actively contributes to projects that foster artistic growth for young Ghanaian artists.
