Yomi Momoh

Born on September 8, 1964, showed remarkable artistic talent during his school years, winning multiple 1st prizes. He pursued his passion and obtained a Bachelor’s degree in Fine Art from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, with a specialization in sculpture. Despite being hailed as the best sculptor among his peers, he primarily practices as a painter in his professional career.

Momoh’s artwork is characterized by its beautiful rendering and a compositional approach that embraces simplicity. He skillfully employs hard, curved, and fine lines to outline his figures effortlessly. The artist engages with the canvas directly, without formal guidelines, creating distorted yet graceful and elongated human-like forms. His work emphasizes the importance of lines in art, blurring the line between drawing and painting. While lines outline the form, the use of color adds depth and substance to the figures.

Momoh’s artistic style often features three types of figuration: feminine characters with half upper limbs, reclining or seated characters with long, thin hands, and figures depicted with square torsos. His artwork reflects his painterly approach and visual interpretation of figures on canvas.

His impressive works have gained recognition both within Nigeria and internationally, with widespread exhibitions. Currently based in Lagos, Yomi Momoh continues to create captivating art that resonates with audiences far and wide.
